School Visit to Kimberley College

March 19, 2014
Carbrook, Brisbane

On the 19th of March staff from the Cultural Section of the Consulate-General of Japan, Brisbane visited Kimberley College to talk to the LOTE Excellence Program students about Japan and Japanese culture.
The group practised self introductions in Japanese, before talking about school life in Japan and having the opportunity to dress up in yukata.  The session finished with some explanations about Japanese food.
The students were incredibly enthusiastic and had lots of questions for the staff, including why schools in Japan don’t have grass, and what is the fastest way to improve their Japanese language skills.
We wish the students all the very best in their continued studies of Japanese language and culture!

Visit to Wellers Hill State School

March 18, 2014
Tarragindi, Brisbane

Staff from the Consulate were very excited to visit Wellers Hill State School on the 18th of March to have a look at their Japanese language immersion program!
We were able to visit two grade one classrooms and see the students learning the kanji for tree (木), listening to their teacher read a book in Japanese, understanding basic instructions in Japanese, and singing lots of songs.
We were so impressed with how far the children's language ability has come in seven short weeks! We wish the school all the very best with their program - it is a wonderful achievement!
