Types of Visas & Requirements

★ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ★
- Visa applications must be submitted in person by the applicant (including children). eVISAs (tourism only) can be applied for online (all other visa types require an appointment booking and applying in person). Please contact our office beforehand if this is not possible.
- Please do NOT staple any documents together & remove all staples before visiting (documents are scanned during processing) - please use paperclips or bulldog clips instead. Please also do not bring scissors, passport photographs will be cut by staff. Instead, bring writing equipment (handwritten forms must be filled out with permanent black or blue-inked pens).

- All documents must be printed prior to your appointment, the Consulate cannot print documents for applicants. Any applicants arriving without printed documents will be asked to make another booking and bring all the documents prepared and printed.
- *Each applicant (including spouses, children etc.) must have their own application containing their own copies of the required documents (no sharing across applications) as each person's application is reviewed individually.
- For those who do not speak English or Japanese, you must bring an interpreter (with valid photo ID) with you as only those languages can be spoken and understood at the Japanese Consulate (translation apps etc. are NOT accepted).
- Nationals from countries that have visa exemption arrangements with Japan can apply for landing permission for short-term stay (for non-paid activities) at the port of entry in Japan without obtaining a visa. For those nationals who require a visa, please determine the type of visa you require, check the requirements, make a booking and lodge your application at the Consulate.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Short-term stay visas
❖ Possible period of stays: 15 days, 30 days, 90 days❖ Validity: 3 months
❖ Purposes include:
- Tourism + required information - (online eVISA for tourism ONLY is also available)
- Visiting friends/family + required information
- School Trip + required information
- Business + required information
- Academic Conference + required information
- Transit + required information
Multiple-entry visas (short-term stay)
Applications only accepted if the intended departure date is within the next 3 months for multiple entry visas AS WELL.
❖ Possible period of stays: 15 days, 30 days, 90 days
❖ Possible validity: 1 year, 3 years, 5 years
❖ Purposes include:
- Tourism for Chinese Nationals + required information - (if you will visit friends or family or stay with them while on holidays, please also submit documents 8, 9, 10 from this list)
- Tourism for Indonesian, Philippine and Vietnamese Nationals + required information - (if you will visit friends or family or stay with them while on holidays, please also submit documents 8, 9, 10 from this list)
For other nationalities not listed, please contact the visa section to determine if a multiple entry visa for your nationality is available or not.
Long-term stay visas/work visas
❖ Possible period of stays: varies depending on purpose and situation
❖ Validity: 3 months (for COE holders, 3 months from the date of the COE issue date); 12 months for working holiday visas

- *Additional documents may be required if necessary.
*Documents submitted with the application will not be returned (except passport and certificate of eligibility).
*Each applicant (including children) must prepare their own separate set of documents (no sharing document copies).
*Visa fees vary, we will advise you at the time of application.
*If the applicant (including child) is unable to visit our office, please contact us before your visit and we will advise you on the extra documents you need to provide.
*A flight is NOT required to be booked/purchased to apply for visas however details such as departure date (from Australia), flight number, (air)port of entry need to be included in the application form so please look into what is available. Should you not take that flight or the details change, that is fine.
*Please note that an appointment IS required to submit a visa application.
