The JAPAN eVISA is a system that enables applicants to apply for a visa online and issues an electronic visa to applicants for a short-term stay for the purpose of tourism.

Please read through all of the below before applying for the eVISA as any 
missing information or documents will result in your visa application being returned.



**If you have been advised to upload any documents/information, you will be given 3 days to upload them and reply to our email. Any documents/information not uploaded within 3 days or no reply to the email will result in your application being returned without notice.**

Eligiblity

 
 
  • The eVISA (online application) is available ONLY short-term tourism visas (less than 90 days AND single entry)For all other types of visa applications, including a short-term visiting friends or family, short-term business, transit visa, double entry and short-term tourism multiple entry visa, you are required to apply at the Consulate in person
 
  • You must ALSO fit the standard eligibility criteria that is shown in STEP 2 here. Online applications from those who do not live in Queensland will NOT be accepted. Please apply at Consulate or Embassy within your residential jurisdiction.

     Please read EVERY reason to determine why your application was returned. 

     One on one consultation on why your application was returned is NOT accepted. 
     If you require consulation, please make a booking to apply in person so the visa officer can advise you the missing documents/information.

Processing Time      
     The general processing time is a MINIMUM of 2 weeks from the date of application lodgment.
     It may take longer than usual if the Government of Japan requires further examination of your application. 

    
 If there is not enough time to process your visa application, it will be returned.
     Applications are open 3 months BEFORE you wish to go so please apply with ample time for processing. 


     Please be aware processing time takes longer during peak holiday periods and over long holidays.

  • Payment method for an eVISA is limited to online credit card payment ONLY. If you cannot pay by card and need to pay with cash, you MUST lodge an application IN PERSON. 
 
  • If your visa is approved, you will receive an email of “Notice of visa fee” at around 9:00am. If you register your credit card by 3:00pm that same day, your visa may be issued that same day between 4:00pm - 5:00pm (if the system is undergoing maintance etc. it may be the following day). 
 
  • Fees must be paid by credit card online. (Details / Video). You so not need to visit the Consulate at all as visas are sent to you electronically when payment is made. Please ensure your card has NO international payment locks as you will be charged in Japanese Yen otherwise your visa cannot be issued.

  • FLIGHTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE BOOKED TO LODGE A VISA APPLICATION (however the INTENDED flight details are still required) SO IT IS THE APPLICANT'S OWN RESPONSIBLITY IF YOU CHOOSE TO BOOK FLIGHTS BEFORE OBTAINING A VISATHERE IS NO EXPEDITED PROCESSING REGARDLESS OF BOOKED FLIGHTS. VISA APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN 3 MONTHS BEFORE INTENDED DEPARTURE DATE. PLEASE APPLY WITH AMPLE TIME FOR YOUR VISA APPLICATION PROCESSING.  
 
  • If you have been advised to upload any documents/information, you will be given 3 days to upload them and reply to our email. Any documents/information not uploaded within 3 days or no reply to the email will result in your application being returned without notice.
   
  • Travel document, Official passport, Service passport and Diplomatic passport holders MUST apply in person and cannot lodge an eVISA.  
 
  • We do NOT accept any inquires about the status of your visa applications as you can check the status through your visa application account.
 
  • Even if you apply for a multiple-entry tourism visa through the online application, you only will be issued a single-entry visa.

  • For familes going on the same trip, please submit your family application in ONE account as a group. Families applying separately as individual applications will be returned. 
 
     ***If you are still having difficulties with the online application process or do not know why your application was not accepted, please make a booking to apply for a visa in person at the Consulate instead so you can receive one on one consulation for your application.

*Each applicant (including children) must prepare separate documents. Any missing documents for children's visa applications will result in their application NOT being accepted.

* A flight is NOT required to be booked to apply for this letter however details such as departure date (of Australia), flight number, (air)port of entry are required for the application form so please look into what is available. Should you not take that flight or the details change, that is fine.
